Reflections
By Rev. Carmen Rizzo

Someone once said. As the world goes, so goes the church. What a tragedy that, in fact, we find this to be so true, especially in our own day. If I were to find find a parallel in the Holy Scriptures that seems to accurately speak of the ideology of our time, that parallel would be in the book of Judges. Judges 21:25b,the very last phrase in the book of Judges makes this statement: " Everyone did what was right in their own eyes."

In those days, the days of the Judges, people no longer felt the need to adhere to any sort of moral code. Every man was a law unto himself. He felt no obligation or accountability to anyone other then the call of his own desires and wishes. It was an age of moral relativity.

If we are to be honest with ourselves,we must confess that ours is also such a time. Where moral relativism is the rule of the land, the judgment of God is not far behind. We as the church of the Living God must speak against this and warn all men of the judgment of God that is on the horizon. Unless we repent and turn away, I believe we will see hard days come upon us in our land.

Every voice counts. It's time to stand up and make your voice heard. You as the people of God can make a difference. It is positively true, that one housewife armed with the word of God, The Holy Bible has more wisdom and power at her fingertips that the collective writings and technology of a fallen race of men in rebellion to God. Search the Scriptures, find, develop and then use the gift that God has given you to impact this world for Jesus Christ. You can do it! Your one voice can make difference.

I conclude my article this month, by leaving you with a story of one man and how his one small voice is impacting thousands for Jesus Christ.

When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:

Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know your word says, "Woe to those who call evil good," but this is exactly what we have done.

  • We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We confess that.
  • We have ridiculed the absolute truth of your word and call it Pluralism.
  • We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
  • We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.
  • We have killed our unborn and called it choice.
  • We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.
  • We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem.
  • We have abused power and called it politics.
  • We have coveted our neighbors possessions and called it ambition.
  • We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.
  • We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; Cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent: to direct us to the center of Your will and to openly ask these things in the name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen!

The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In six short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa, and Korea.

Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, "The Rest of the Story" and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired.

With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called "One Nation Under God."

Your one single voice can make a difference. Use it!

I remember hearing about that prayer and some of the reactions to it. It still eludes me, how these men that can pray such a powerful prayer could ever allow prayer to be taken out of our schools.
Now years later we are seeing the effects of that decision aren't we? When I reach back four decades or more of time in my memory. I remember the meanest thing a kid did in school then was. Chew gum, talk back to the teacher, disturb the class and be sent home. Now I see my grandkids have to pass through a metal detector before they can enter. Drug sniffing dogs sniffing at their lockers and the Lord knows they have learned not to enter the restrooms by themselves!
These men regardless of their NOW fervent prayers, are still responsible for our teachers not being able to chastise a child into praying about their behavior! Instead of keeping Satan in check, he now has an upper hand with the NEXT generation!
Which brings me to a question I would like to ask a practicing Christian. What do you think a persons life experiences is chalked up to free will or predestination?
THANK YOU, NIGHTMANII
