Greeting from Ghana:

There is much to write to you all about - some very exciting, and then some that will require some earnest prayer.

We want to praise the Lord for what He has been doing here in Ghana. Last month we had our faith promise missionʼs conference. It was exciting to see how God has been working in many areas of Africa and Ghana. Our main objective this year is to send Pastor Joe Gueh, one of the men who trained in our Bible school, to his home country of Liberia. He has been working in our Christian School where he is the chaplain of school. Many young people have come to know Jesus Christ through his teaching. We have even had some of our Junior High School young men respond to the call of God to go into the ministry because of Joeʼs teachings.

We were blest by a report from Pastor Peter Addai from Bolgatanga. Peter has been working hard in this new ministry, and the Lord has been blessing his efforts in Bolga. The church has about 40-45 adults and 20-30 children. Praise God! We are currently in the process of acquiring 7.5 lots of land in Bolgatanga. The land is going to cost about $21000 +. The land is in an excellent location right along the roadside just as you enter the city. Pray that all the paperwork goes through and that the money can be raised to build the church building.

A report from Burkina Faso:
The four pastors are working hard at visiting people in the city. The Lord has been blessing their efforts with many visitors coming to the church. Please remember that Burkina Faso is a predominately Muslim area. The sad thing is that this church was meeting on a corner of some school land but they have been asked to leave the property, so now they are meeting at Pastor Stephen Kyeremeʼs house.

Toubodom:
We have been seeing visitors coming every week. This has been an encouragement to all of us. Last Sunday, we had a baptism where 20 people testified of their belief in Christ. The Childrenʼs Bible Club has been encouraging. The Adutwie Childrenʼs Bible Club remains active as long as the rains allow us to travel on the road. A 4x4 is really needed in this ministry. We are hoping for a new road in the future.

Family:
What we hear from our stateside family is good. Dona and Rebecca came down with malaria, but after treatment, both are well. Julia is doing well in P1, and continues to improve in English each day. We praise God that she is learning so quickly. We have to file an I-600 form with US government for her immigrations papers.

I had malaria about a month ago but recovered with no problem. Then last weekend I thought I was coming down with it again. I stayed home and rested on Saturday and Sunday, and seemed to feel better. Then on Wednesday, I had a funeral to attend in the afternoon. We had a meeting of the pastoral staff in the morning, and by the end of the meeting I was feeling lightheaded and noted some tightness in my chest. I havenʼt been sleeping well lately, so I attributed the tightness to lack of sleep. In the afternoon I went to the funeral. I walked about 1800 feet from the car to the funeral, greeted the people, and sat down. I began to sweat and my head started to spin. We made our donation to the family, and I sought permission to leave because I was not feeling well. I made it home safely and lay down. Dona told me then to get checked because the tightness in the chest is nothing to joke with. I stayed low on Thursday, and on Friday, we went to Adutwie as normal. On Saturday I was starting to feel sick again. I thought that it was malaria again, so I had Dona pick up some medicine. About 1 am my head felt about 20 times it size, and I took my blood pressure. It was 161/99. My chest was really tight like someone was sitting on it. This lasted for about 20 minutes. My BP was 145/99 at that time. Dona got up and I explained to her the problem. Pastor Samuel, Dona and I traveled to Sunyani this morning and saw his doctor friend. He was doing some surgery, but said that we should come to the Regional Hospital on Monday to run some tests. So tomorrow we will go to Sunyani again for the tests. Right now I have a headache that comes and goes, and my chest still has tightness. Pray with us that this may only be some stress. We are leaving all options open at this point. If we feel that I should return home to the states for some further testing I will go. This is a totally new experience for me. I am not usually sick, and have decided that it is not fun. We are praying to God, and we know that He does all things well.

If trip back to the states is needed, Iʼm looking to God for the finances to go. Our budget is very tight these days with fuel increasing twice recently, and another increasing is coming next month. The price for fuel now over $1.10 a liter. The electrical company has also increased their rates by 35%. The fuel increase has caused prices to increase in everything we buy. We know you understand the rising prices as they are everywhere.

Your prayers are coveted as we endeavor to serve our Savior.

In His Service,
Jim, Dona, Rebecca, and Julia

Greetings from Ghana,

First, I want to thank all of you for praying for me yesterday and today; I believe that God has answered your prayers.

Today, we (Pastor Samuel, Dona, and I) left early for Sunyani to go the Regional Hospital. We arrived at the hospital at about 8am. We waited in line for a card which took about two hours. Then we met with Pastor Samuel's doctor friend. He escorted us to one the offices of the ECG operators, but he had traveled and was not around. We then were led to another ECG operator who ran the test for us. The test took longer to setup then to run, but isn't that always the way. We took the result back to another doctor to be read. He said that Dr. Boateng was the best doctor to read these reports, and he will be here on Wednesday. We told the doctor that we live in Techiman where Dr. Boateng lives, and we will see him there.

So we drove back to Techiman and went to Holy Family Hospital. We found Dr. Boateng at his office, and he read the report for us. He was very pleasant and helpful - even though we walked into his office after hours without an appointment.

He explained the report as follows:
1) no noticeable arrhythmia
2) a lower than normal heart rate (unless I was an athlete - Ha!)
3) one ECG may not be clear enough to see what exactly is happening

He did say that in order to be sure, he would like to run a Thyroid panel. He also said that the low pulse could be due to a number of things, but he would like the results of the thyroid test before he did other things. He suggested a halter monitor might be needed if it looked like a better picture of my heart activity were needed. He also said that a heart rate less than 60 might attribute to my lightheadedness. When you start moving, your body needs to equalize the pressure, and if the heart is not beating fast enough, there could be a problem. He did prescribe NTG for the chest pain to see if it would help, but we had no success in locating it tonight. Pray that either I don't need it, or that we can locate it tomorrow.

We will go back to the Sunyani hospital on Wednesday morning to run the blood test and to see the doctor again.

So here is our decision for now. We are going to Sunyani on Wednesday for this lab test. Then I'm not sure what other tests he may want to run after he see the results. We will wait for a decision from Dr. Boateng.

Right now my BP is 131/75 - much better than the other day.

Please continue to pray:
I'm still not feeling 100%, and I get tired easily, but that can be attributed to the low heart rate. We are hoping that some of these other tests will shed some more light on the possible trouble.

I will keep you all updated as information comes to light.

In His Hands,
Jim
