Merry christmas and happy new year!
Hello everyone! I hope you are doing well as we come close to Christmas – wow, only a week away! Time sure flies! Or as my international students sometimes say “Time to fly” or “Time fly away”. I just want to take time to say thank you for your friendship, gifts and prayers with me during 2007. I had a great year and glad to be serving the Lord with Word of Life in my many different capacities.
Just want to share a few highlights of the year ...
In April, I was able to take my annual trip to Korea to
promote the Word of Life Bible Institute as well as visit my missionaries friends, the Steiners, in Taiwan. This is Iris Mun, WOLBI alumnus and secretary at SYME in Korea – she was also one of my students when I taught in Korea. We’re just making funny faces for the camera! At the Bible Institute now, I have about 25 Koreans from the Word of Life ministry/SYME in Korea! They’re awesome students!
In June, I was asked to go to Japan to help with the brand new Word of Life Japan/SYME program there. I taught English and helped care for the visiting teachers from the USA. Here is a picture of some Word of Life Bible Institute alumniwho I was able to connect with. If you are ever interested in teaching English for about eight weeks, please contact me – you can choose between Korea and Japan and hopefully next year, Taiwan! It’s a great time and easy way to serve the Lord – by using your native language – English!!
In August, we had graduation for the 2006-07 students here at the Bible Institute. It was sad to see some of “my people” go back home or transfer to another college, but it was great to see them make this accomplishment. Can you imagine studying the Bible in another country and in a second language?? Amazing!! This is Gen Leduc from Quebec, Canada, a great girl!
Just a few weeks later in September, it was time to welcome the 2007-08 students. Here’s a group shot of us at the beginning of the year. I have 50 students from 13 different countries! It’s a great group and I’m enjoying getting to know them well.
As many of you know, in September, my dad was called Home to be with the Lord. It was a hard time for our family but we are so thankful He knew Jesus as his Savior and is now face-to-face with Him. We had a wonderful memorial service that I believe honored the Lord and honored my dad.Thank you so much to those who sent cards, emails and prayers during this difficult time. Here is a picture of my dad in August at my mom’s birthday – with mom and nephew, Alex.
In November, I had to say “goodbye” to three of my students who started in January 2006 and graduated from our two-year program. This is Hye-Yeon from Korea, Brenda from Aruba and Tsuma from Kenya. We celebrated by going out to Applebees! I love these friends so much but glad they will continue to serve God in their home countries.
I hope you had a great year this year! I’m thankful to know the Lord as my Savior, to have a great family, to have a wonderful ministry here with Word of Life and to have fantastic friends like you!
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Love,
Wendy |
