Greeting from Ghana:
It’s hard to believe that it is October already. Most of you are in you autumn season with the weather changing to colder temperature. If you are in New England, I’m sure you are enjoying the fall foliage as God displays His handiwork and His awesome creativity. Our weather is changing, also. It is the second rainy season, but it was hard to tell when the first rains stopped. We have been having heavy thunderstorms and our temperatures are now starting to get warmer.
Last month I had the privilege of going to Burkina Faso and Niger as part of the “Spirit of Caleb Ministry.” We traveled in vehicles for over 40 hours - eleven hours to Burkina Faso and 10 hours to Niger. Niger is predominately Muslim country, and September was their “Ramadan,” their holy time lasting for one month. We met with about 17 Baptist pastors from Niger and held a seminar on “Faith Promise Giving.” It was well received by them. We were only in Niamey, Niger, from Tuesday evening to Thursday morning.
On Thursday, we returned to Burkina Faso. We have a Spirit of Caleb church plant there in Ouga. We had planned to spend Friday and Saturday involved in evangelism and soul winning. We showed a Christian video in the soccer field across from the church meeting place. This was really interesting because about 300 yards away from where we were showing our Christian films was a Muslim Mosque. Being Ramadan, the Muslim cleric’s were holding classes every night on the Muslim faith. After they closed their meetings, they came over and watched the film and listened to the preaching of God’s Word.
During the two days of evangelism and soul-winning there were about 30 people who trusted Christ as their Savior. What an awesome time it was to see Spirit of God working there! There were several professions of faith made during the Sunday morning service. It was just a wonderful trip. On this trip I discovered the need to become familiar with the French language. If anyone could recommend a French language program that I could put on my computer, it would be much appreciated.
The work in Ghana is keeping us busy.
Tuobodom:
Recently, we have had 10 people saved during our Sunday morning services. On Sunday nights we have been working on becoming familiar with the Bible. One Sunday I was watching as many of our people were struggling to find the Bible passages. I was watching them turn to index and find the page number for the book. I decided to make Sunday Evening Service a time to memorizing the books, as well as learn some important themes taught in them. We have had excellent attendance because of the interest generated.
Pastor Ameyaw preached while I was in Burkina Faso and Niger. I have heard that he did well. He is young and has long way to go in his training. So pray for Pastor Ameyaw as he continues his schooling, and myself as I have an opportunity to help train him. My hope is that some day he will be called to pastor Tuobodom and I will be able to leave for another location.
The Children’s Bible Club has been busy with 120 to 170 children coming. Dona has had three faithful people helping with the club.
Please pray for Deacon Osie Peter. He was involved in accident and broke a bone in his right leg. His leg was pinned under the truck. He has been a faithful Sunday School teacher. Pray that he will mend quickly. Some have told me that Osie has felt a call into the ministry, but he has not as yet make a decision to start his training. The Twi Bible school is to start next week. He would have to go there because his English is not very good.

his ministry has always been a blessing to me. We have many faith people there, and they are serving with a heart of love for God. Last week Dona had over 120 children in Bible Club. It is a wonderful work.
Peterson Family:
We are all doing well. I have been dealing with a sore throat for about a week now, but it seems to be getting better. Tomorrow I will travel to Accra with Pastor Samuel to pickup one of our co-workers Susan Oppenhiemer. She is returning from furlough.
We are planning our furlough next year and hope to see many of you. We have been following the economic crisis on the internet, and have read about the $700 billion bailout of the banking industry. We have also felt the stress in our support. Last month we had shortage of over 55% in our regular monthly support (approx. $1700). We needed $5000 in monthly support but we came to Ghana with only $3794 month (less $680 a month for health insurance in the States, leaving $3114). We know that many of you have shortages because of inflation and “recession”. We are experiencing much the same over here in Ghana with prices of everything rising. We are praying that the economy will stabilize, but know that God is in control.
