Greetings from Ghana:
It has been a little while since I have written to you all about the ministry here. The ministry has had some good thing happening and some discouraging things, too; but the Lord has truly been blessing the ministry here. I will ask that you continue to pray for us as we serve here.
Adutwie Ministry:
This village is about 9 miles away from Tuobodom, and the road to get there has been a real challenge – especially during the rainy season. There were times that the road was impassable - even with a four wheel drive vehicle. Despite this obstacle, we look forward to Friday afternoons for the Children’s Bible Club and Sunday mornings for our 8:30am worship service. Please pray for the Children’s Bible club as the children are eager to learn the different Bible stories and missionary stories that are taught. Lately the attendance has been around 80 – 90. The adults have been coming out to help with the children. This has been really encouraging to us. Last Friday we had five adults that came out to help. If we could have about three more adults helping with the club we could start some games for the children which would encourage a larger group of children. We are praying that the Lord will burden more people to help in this ministry.
I think that I have mentioned this before that we have at least four men who are burden to attend the Great Commission Training Center (GCTC), the TWI Bible School that is starting later this year. This last Sunday morning I asked one of men from the Adutwie to preach. Brother Samuel Mensah had a wonderful message on the subject of “The Believers Responsibility”. His message was good challenge to all that were there. I can see that with some more training and studying he will be a good preacher. I’m hoping that in the future, I will be able to place him as the village pastor.
The GCTC is going to be a great training and evangelistic tool. We have many men in our villages that have gone to school only to Junior High School and others have gone to High School, but they struggle with the English language. In GCTC they can receive their training in their own language with a few courses offered in English. We are planning to give these men the New Testament in TWI either on tape or CD. This way they can listen to the TWI being read for them and then become more proficient in their reading of the language. Please pray for the Great Commission Training Center as there are financial needs in starting and maintaining the school. The men attending this school will be farmers, and they have little to no money to come to the school. We know that when they are trained, they will be used by God to reach the lost in their villages. If the Lord lays a burden for you to help the school financially or with prayer, email me to let me know. We are going to have a day of prayer for the school on March 13th, 2008. I want to thank you in advance for your commitment.
Tuobodom Ministry:
Children’s Bible club has been increasing in numbers since the holidays. We have a need in our children’s ministry of more adult leaders to help. Unlike Adutwie, the Tuobodom members are not helping with the ministry. A few years ago we had more adults working in the Bible club and were able to minister to around 250 children. Please pray that more adults would sacrifice some of their time to work in this ministry.
Our Sunday morning attendance has been around 60 to 70 adults. Our Sunday evening service is lagging behind with only a handful in attendance. We have been making some adjustments to the format of the evening service and more are beginning to come out. Praise the Lord.
I need you all to pray for the Tuobodom church. We had one of our members swear by an idol for the second time this year. She was already on church discipline, and when we went to confront her about it with her husband there, he became very angry. We left the house, and they have not come back to the church since. I have asked Pastor Samuel to go with another pastor and try to talk with them.
Pastor Thomas has given us his resignation. This Sunday will be his last Sunday at Tuobodom. He and his family are planning to move back to Sunyani by the end of February.
A young man named Ameyaw Daniel is now in the Bible school. Please pray for him! My hope is that in about 3 years time, he will feel a call to work in his home church as a pastor.
Peterson Family:
Dona and the girls have been fine. We have not experienced any major health issues.
I will going back to Sunyani Regional Hospital for a follow-up thyroid test. The doctor wants to check the FT 3 and FT4 levels. If they are okay, he may cut back the strength of the medication. Lately I have been a little lightheaded. I think that is due to stress, but I will let the doctor know what is happening.
I do have two Prayer Requests:
1. My sister Cheryl Marshall has been diagnosed with pericarditis. She was hospitalized for about a week and the doctors drained off over 500ml of fluid from the heart area. She was sent home but had a relapse last week. She is now on bedrest for a couple weeks.
2. Today we just received word from our family that Dona’s sister Ruth is at the Cooley Dickenson Hospital. She has been diagnosed with lung cancer and three brain tumors. They have taken a biopsy of the lung tissue to determine is what type of cancer it is. Pray for Ruth’s salvation. She needs the peace that only God can give at this time. Ruth is my age. She will be having radiation therapy to reduce the brain tumors. Then they are thinking about chemotherapy.
Thank you for your support of our ministry here in Ghana.
In His Service,
Jim, Dona, Rebecca, and Julia.
P.S. Happy Valentines Day to all. |
