Greeting from Ghana!
Yesterday the rain started falling at 7am and continued until 11:15am. The Adutwie ministry did not happen because the road (which is rutted due to other rain storms) gets extremely muddy and slippery. Our service in Tuobodom started at noon after a two hour rain delay. (You thought rain delays were only in baseball - welcome to Ghana. 99.9% of our people walk to church and some may walk as much as three or four miles.) Needless to say, our attendance was very low at about 20 people. Rain started falling again before the evening service and again, attendance was low. We need the rain, so we are not complaining.
Last week we didn’t have rain problems. We had a wonderful morning worship service with three new visitors. We had our usual attendance of about 60 adults. After the morning service we had a baptism with eight people following the Lord’s example. Praise the Lord!
This week I’m very busy with teaching in the Bible School. I’m teaching Systematic Theology to the two senior students. We are planning to cover the doctrines of Bible, God and Christ. Pray for our class this week.
One of our members Akose has been really excited about serving the Lord. She has been going to the church to weed the property by herself for a couple of hours a day. She has been faithful to come to Children’s Bible Club - both at Tuobodom and Adutwie. She wants to learn to read the Twi Bible, and is praying about learning English. She has given me some money to purchase the New Testament Bible in Twi on cassette. Please pray for Akose and her family.
Adutwie:
This ministry has always been a joy and highlight of our week. We are hoping find a piece of land to start building a place to worship. We have two charismatic churches meeting in the school where we meet now. The Children’s Bible club is always a blessing here. We have about 6 adults helping with this work. We having two men that are seeking to go into “The Great Commissioning Training Center”. This school will open in October. Pray for them that they will start and finish their training.
Peterson Family:
We are doing well. We think that Rebecca may have a boil on her ear. We are treating it with antibiotics and a cream. Please pray for Rebecca – it hurts to even lie down or talk on the cell phone. I’m off the thyroid medication for right now. I have about one more month before the doctor will run another set of tests to see if the thyroid is functioning properly. If the levels have returned back to normal, then no medication will be needed. We are praying that this will be the case. I have not experienced any symptoms like in the past.
We have just renewed our residence permits with Immigrations. The cost of these permits were $100 per person last year but now they are$200 per person - ouch! We have also filed for Julia’s passport with Ghana. Please pray that this will come within the next month or two. We will then get her an American Visa for her passport so she can travel with is next year. Please pray for our planned furlough next year.
In His Service,
Jim, Dona, Rebecca, and Julia |
