Greetings from Ghana!

Tomorrow morning I leave for Burkina Faso and Niger. The International Baptist Pastor’s Fellowship is having its annual meeting this year in Niamey, Niger. A group of us will be meeting with some of the local Independent Fundamental Baptist pastors to form a strategy to reach Niger with the Gospel of Christ. We will also be teaching the nationals there about “Faith Promise Giving,” too. Pray for us as we travel and leave our families here in Ghana.

The Lord continues to move in the churches in Ghana. On August 28th-30th, we had our B/A Baptist Pastor’s Fellowship in Nkɔronza at Truth Baptist Church. This is Pastor Hayford’s church, and every year they have a conference and crusade. On Thursday night as we were setting up the equipment for the crusade, the rain started falling. It was heavy for about 45 minutes. We had to quickly get all the electrical equipment into the church, but the troubles were not done. When a power shortage hit for about 30 minutes, we were wondering if we would be able to have the crusade. God is good, and we were able to show the first half of the Jesus film in “Twi”. Pastor Miguel Triano preached, and the Lord used his message to bring at least 20 people to Himself. On Friday, Pastor Steve Volante was the preacher, and again the Lord stirred the hearts of the people. On Saturday I preached from John 14:6. The Lord used that message to reach at least 10 people. It was an exciting three days for our team of pastors.

Adutwie:
Last Sunday was just an awesome Sunday. We had a smaller group than normal because of weather, sickness and funerals. Despite the small attendance, the Lord used my message on “El-Shaddai” to bring five young people to Jesus Christ. Pray for these five young people. They are Adeio Stephen, Isaac Achimpong, Amos Asabre (Jnr), Asante Moah, and Ameyaw Amos. We were very late getting back to Tuobodom to begin services there, but when I explained the reason for our tardiness, a shout of “Amen” arose!

That same day, one of the men who intended to enroll in the Great Commissioning Training Center, came and informed us that he was married before and was not qualified to go. I was very disappointed thinking he would be the one who would qualify. I praise God that he realized that he was disqualified on his own. There is still one man, Sarfo Mensah, who is praying about entering the school. Please pray for him as he meets this challenge.

This Friday, Dona said there were 114 children at Children’s Bible Club. This village ministry is flourishing. I wish that we could have some of you here to experience it for yourselves. You would say “Praise God for His work here!” Would you consider sending your pastor over here for a missions trip? It would change his life by giving him a more clear view of missions. We would love to host a group or a pastor or two in 2011 or later after we return from furlough.

Tuobodom:
During a business meeting, the Church has agreed to come to the aid of Pastor Malouli in Togo. His wife had difficulty with a pregnancy that resulted in emergency surgery. This cost him over $1500 (American Dollars). He has appealed to sister churches and friends for help. The Tuobodom church will be sending him $100 to help. Please pray for Pastor Malouli’s financial need so that he can concentrate on his ministry in Togo. It was good to see the membership rally around this family.

The church also approved $200 toward the purchase of a lawnmower. A brand new one is $450 to $500. It’s expensive. Using cutlasses to take care of the grounds is time consuming – a difficult situation when the people are farmers and need to be in the fields.

The church is doing well. We have been working on memorizing the books of the Bible. Most of people may have a Bible but don’t know where to turn in them when a passage is given. We have been having some fun learning the books.

The Children’s Bible Club is doing really well. Dona has been having 150-190 children every week now. Praise the Lord.

Peterson Family:
We are starting to look forward to furlough. No definite plans have been set yet, but we are looking toward April. There is still much work to be done here. I have been doing an in-depth audit of the financial records of the International School. It has taken one week already with at least one more week to go after I return from Burkina Faso and Niger. I’m working on getting the school financial records on computer to make the accounting easier for the school treasurer.

We are still waiting for Julia’s passport to come in. The Immigrations office told us to come back in December. We will go back in November to check on the progress. Pray that this comes in as we will have to get her an American visa to travel to the States. In February her adoption will be final, so pray that no problems arise that would hinder this. Julia has been doing well with home schooling. She has started 2nd grade ABeka and says that her favorite class is reading. Praise God. She even tries to read the Bible – and does quite well.

We are looking to the Lord for financial help in planning our return home. We have not been able to save any money from our monthly support. It has been coming in and going out on a monthly basis. I know that many of you know what I’m talking about. Inflation has hit here this last year, and most things we buy have increased dramatically. We know that the Lord will provide, but be in prayer as we may need about $5000 to come home for airline tickets. Hopefully the prices will not go much higher.

Thank you for all of your prayers and support. God bless you as you endeavor to serve the King.

In His Service,
Jim, Dona, Rebecca, and Julia
