Dear Prayer Partners,

This spring (we are south of the equator) is full of a whirlwind of activities. We have already “sprung forward” into daylight savings time and look forward to longer and warmer days after a cooler than usual winter.

Our church activities are keeping us very active. We are in the middle of a six week mission’s emphasis campaign in which we hope to increase the desire of our members to fulfill the Great Commission in their Jerusalem and Judea. Matthew 28:19-20 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.”

In the children’s program at our church we are challenging them to invite visitors and continue faithful in church attendance. They are preparing to sing a couple of songs in the Christmas cantata.

Our teens are working toward their summer retreat in February. In preparation for this, we are encouraging our teens to grow in their personal walk with God through personal Bible study, verse memorization and writing down the outline of one sermon a week and evangelization. We have a recreational outing planned in mid-December and the top 8 finishers will earn their way “free” to an amusement park. This past weekend, 6 of our teens ministered in our “Judea” by going door-to-door handing out invitations for a special children’s program in that local church planted by our co-worker many years ago. A visitor boy even came out to help. Augusto is unsaved, so we pray that his desire to be involved will facilitate his coming to trust Christ as Savior.

Our adults are being encouraged to be a disciple or to disciple others by either doing/or teaching a small Bible study in the book of John. Tract distribution, Bible reading and bringing visitors are all ways for them to earn prizes, but most importantly we are emphasizing a closer walk with God. Two of the four missionaries that our church plant supports will be with us to report as well.

We were extremely delighted to have a construction team of 10 folks from Calvary Baptist Church in Winter Garden, Florida come down and work with our team on our church building during the first full week of October. There was much to be done and they accomplished a great deal more than we could have imagined. They came to work and they did a fantastic job, cleaning the auditorium floor, doing plumbing, electrical, putting up gutters, pouring the floor for the platform, and laying the block for the baptistery. Now, if needed, we could actually use the auditorium in the very rustic state that is in. Not only did they do all of this work for us, but they also paid for it all too! God is Good! Thank you team!

After2:

I recently finished teaching a new members class with 8 new candidates for membership. Four of them are candidates for baptism and they want to be baptized in our own building. We have to seal the inside and get the plumbing set. That will be a special day for our people.

Urgent prayer needs: We are praying harder than ever for the Lord to call a Brazilian pastor to lead this congregation into the future. Please pray with us as we have a pastoral candidate with us early in November.

Our family is planning our furlough to begin in early May 2009 and that will leave our colleagues, the Forans, with all of the work. Can we schedule to report to your church if we haven’t already? Please pray with us as we will need to raise additional support too.

Financially things are tough all around the world and we have been hit especially hard over the last three years with the constant drop in the value of the dollar. This doesn’t take God by surprise and we praise Him for supplying our needs this term. We came in faith God would provide and He has! We have seen a small improvement this past month due to a higher demand for dollars and the world wide economic crunch.

We are seeking godly wisdom on how to proceed in another matter. We are considering purchasing a simple house in the neighborhood for a parsonage. The going price is around US$50,000.00 of which we have around US$15,000.00. A parsonage would leave the church in a manner that they could offer housing as part of the total package for the pastor.

Our auditorium still needs all of the finish-work inside and out. The list is a long one: all of the electrical and fixtures, plumbing and fixtures ($5,000), windows and doors ($10,000), flooring ($8,000), plumbing and electrical ($5,000), as well as plastering inside and out, and paint inside and out.

We thank the Lord for providing so much and trust that we’ll soon have the building finished.  We have filled our downstairs meeting place many times and really do need the larger space.

I know that many churches have an end of the year Christmas missions offering for special projects. If you do we would love for this work to be considered.

Knowing that you will do what you can, we ask for your prayerful consideration of our church planting project here in Carapícuiba, Brazil (metro São Paulo)
