Proverbs 16:9 says, “The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” That was the verse that kept coming to mind during my time in Burkina Faso. Our team of six people went there to help deliver gifts to poor children under Operation Christmas Child of Samaritan’s Purse, but the Lord had other plans for us. What happened? Well, the government agency there basically wanted a bride of about $15,000 to get the boxes out of Customs. As you can see in the picture, we saw our approximately 120,000 boxes sitting in a warehouse. But the saddest part was that the Gospel message of salvation wasn’t being shared as the boxes weren’t distributed.

What could we do?
Just pray and ask the Lord to give us other opportunities for ministry — which He did.

We were able to visit two orphanages. One had 65+ children from babies to teens. It was tough to see that the children had no toys and not much color in their lives but we met wonderful Christian people who have dedicated their lives to taking care of these children. The other agency had 44 babies under the age of two. Again, we were so thankful to see how God is providing for these children. We were also able to distribute teacher supplies to 12 different schools which was so fun and a pleasure to do. These teachers and children don’t have much in their classrooms so it was a joy to hand out the basics to them. We were mobbed with kids wanting to shake our hands and greet us. I told them “Jesu Tem” which is “Jesus loves you” in French.

It’s hard to imagine that people still live in mud huts in 2006 but the people of Burkina Faso live about one step above the desert. The driest part is their spiritual lives where over 50% of the country is under the Islamic teaching. Please pray for the missionaries there. Thank you so much for praying for me!!

I had a great time in Ghana with my friends, Steve and Michelle
Volante. I was able to attend their church and meet many wonderful people. Then I was able to meet John and Marilyn Asmah, the Word of Life missionaries in the capital city and get a taste of what they do there. I also met with a man from Togo who would like to attend Word of Life Bible Institute here in NY this coming September.

Prayer Requests:
    1. That the boxes would be released without having to pay any money.
    2. For receptive hearts to the Gospel when the boxes are finally distributed
    3. For the ministry of the missionaries there in Burkina and Ghana
