Greeting From Ghana!
We have finally found a means of doing email a little easier. We have been very busy, and since time does not wait for anyone, we have been slow in writing. Please forgive us. We were living at Steve's house from December of 2006 to the beginning of July 2007. Steve and his family were coming back to Ghana in August, so we moved to a new house. The new house was just being built, and it was not completely finished when we moved in. It is now livable with only some cabinets in the kitchen and some outside work to be finished. We had no telephone line here which has been the reason for our silence. We now have a fixed cell-phone that has internet capabilities. We are testing this new system to see how it works, and if it works well, then we will cancel our other internet service. Our old service Africa online has been charging us $50 a month for 2 hours of internet. The Ghana Telecom company charges $40 for unlimited access. So we will switch to save money.
This update will be about my recent trip but I will bring you all up to date on other news in future emails.
I have just returned from a one week evangelism and soul winning campaign in the capital of Burkina Faso. We went to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, with about 55 pastors and missionaries from America, Mexico, Ivory Coast, Togo, Burkina Fuso, and Ghana. We had planned this trip back in December, 2006, and were there from September 26th thru October 2nd in the city. Ouagadougou is a predominantly Muslim city. Our purpose for going there was to start an Independent Fundamental Baptist church in the city. In the future we want to start a Bible school to train men for the Ouagadougou and Burkina Fuso area. We are also hoping to use Burkina Faso as a springboard to access more Northern African countries. Missionary Steve Volante has a planned trip after Easter next year to go to Mali or Niger on a survey trip. We are looking to start a work in one of the major cities there.
We arrived in Ouagadougou on Tuesday night after a nine hours ride. It was long trip and when we arrived, there was a hot meal waiting for us all to eat. Every morning we gathered on the church property for two preaching sessions which were challenging to all of us. This was followed by prayer time.
In the afternoons we had three hours for soul-winning and visitation in which 140 people prayed to receive Jesus Christ. On Saturday afternoon we had one group doing discipleship and another group building the temporary church structure. Twenty-five people came for the discipleship sessions. We finished the church structure in dark. All of us worked together to make Sunday a great day.
On Sunday for the opening of this new church there were 45 adults, 65 children, and 28 pastors in attendance. Some of the pastors had to travel back to their churches for their services. The Spirit was moving in that service and 3 people raised their hands for salvation with 2 of them praying to receive Jesus Christ as Savior. On Sunday night we had 4 people baptized. What joyous time that was! One of the ladies that were baptized was a Muslim, so pray for her as she will have a struggle with her family because of her conversion from Islam to Christianity.
We arrived home safely on Tuesday night.
In His Service,
Jim, Dona, Rebecca and Julia Peterson |
